Why I choose to have WORD OF THE YEAR…

Last year was the first time I made a word of the year (see original post here). My word was Peace. What I LOVED about having a word of the year, is it helped me focus on what I truly wanted.  As I took on new things or had different opportunities come up in my life, I asked my self – “will this help improve peace?” Why did I chose PEACE for my word for 2018?  The end of my 2017 brought a lot of chaos and change.  During that time, I came across  a quote :

“Peace- it does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.”

That quote resonated with me so strongly at the time,  and so it became my word of the year as I entered 2018!! During my year of PEACE, I learned how to incorporate things like  meditation, journaling, reading my devotional each morning, making sleep a priority, using affirmations, 2018 was an amazing journey for me and incorporating peace into my life had a huge impact on my 2018. How did I choose my 2019 year of the word? What a year of peace taught me was how much joy happens around me all the time. And how important it is to recognize it and appreciate it. The more we recognize joy and appreciate it, the more that joy multiplies and increases! 

Once you have a word of the year- how do you use it? How do you incorporate it into your life and make it count?

Here is my plan…

1. Recognize joy in my everyday life~

Right after I decided to make joy my word of the year, my daughter gave me this Happiness Is journal (The universe was like- here, I am going to help you recognize joy- thanks universe 🙂 The universe is funny that way if we listen to her…

There is something about knowing that you “have” to write down something that brings you joy each day, that makes you be more aware of those things. While this journal encourages 1 thing a day, I find more than that to write down.

2. Plan things that bring me joy

As I am planning my schedule I make sure that those things that bring me joy are in there. Spending time with the people who are the most important to me, date nights, time with kids, family nights, brunches with friends, taking a class that I am excited about, etc. Look at your calendar- is everything just work and business. Add some joyful things. Add some stickers too- my calendar makes me smile- does yours?

3. Bring joy with me

Joy isn’t something that I plan on just celebrating on my own. I want to bring it with me in everything I do. No matter what I am doing I hope to radiate joy.

4. Let joy shine in all of my relationships

Really making sure that I am spending times of joy with the people in my life- and make that a priority!!
