Get out of your comfort zone
“Everything you’ve always wanted is on the other side of your comfort zone.”
First of all, let’s talk about what a comfort zone is…
A comfort zone is purposefully staying in situations that are familiar and predictable. Comfort zones prevent us from trying new things because of the unknown. A comfort zone is where you feel safe and secure.
So, what’s the big deal?
If you are asking yourself- “Why should I come out of my comfort zone?” Most everything we REALLY want in life will require us to do things that we aren’t comfortable with.
Comfort zones
- Keep us from growth
- Holds us back in relationships
- Feeling stuck in a rut
- Holds us back
Here are some things to try!
- Start a conversation with a stranger
- It doesn’t have to be anything big, tell someone you love their sweater and ask where they got it.
- Try a new skill
- take a dance lesson, learn to play an instrument, search on YouTube for how to cook a meal that you have always wanted to try, the possibilities are endless!
- Step into the uncomfortable
- Make a list of things that make you feel uncomfortable or limitations that you currently have. Also have a list of your goals. Where do they overlap? Start doing the things!!
- Start small
- If you usually workout by yourself, sign up for a class. Put yourself out there in small ways and it starts feeling less awkward the more you do it!
- Have a dance party
- Allowing yourself to let loose and dance your heart out is a great way to practice being uncomfortable.
- Go to a new place
- this could be as easy as trying out a new restaurant or coffee shop or maybe visit a new town.
What happens when we step out of our comfort zone?
- Improve your confidence
- Builds resistance
- Develop a growth mindset
- Find joy
- Expand your viewpoints and ideas
