Create a Beautiful Routine for the Fall that will actually help you

I went for a walk this weekend on a trail nearby my house, it was absolutely beautiful to see the leaves changing. It reminded of the beauty of transformation that surrounds us. Fall is a time that nature is transforming but we are also transforming. It is natural for our routines to ebb and flow with the seasons. Creating a wellness routine that connects with the fall is a beautiful way to honor the natural ebb and flow of nature.

Physical Health:

  1. Nutritious Diet:
    • Incorporate seasonal fruits and vegetables like apples, pumpkins, squash, and sweet potatoes into your meals.
    • Include warming foods like soups, stews, and herbal teas to support your immune system.
    • Ensure a balance of macronutrients (carbs from whole foods, proteins, and healthy fats) in your diet.
  2. Regular Exercise:
    • Embrace outdoor activities like hiking, biking, or brisk walking to enjoy the crisp fall air.
    • Consider indoor workouts such as yoga or Pilates to maintain flexibility and strength.
    • Establish a consistent exercise routine, aiming for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week.
  3. Adequate Sleep:
    • Stick to a regular sleep schedule to ensure you get 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night.
    • Create a calming bedtime routine and avoid electronic devices before bedtime to improve sleep quality.
  4. Massage or Bodywork:
    • Treat yourself to a massage or other bodywork to release tension and improve circulation.
    • Try out a hot stone massage or using essential oils.
  5. Sauna, Hot Baths or Hot Tubs:
    • Enjoy the benefits of warmth and relaxation by incorporating warmth into your routine.

  2. Nature Connection:
    • Spend time outdoors in nature, whether it’s a park, forest, or your backyard.
    • Take a mindful walk, using all 5 senses noticing the colors, smells, and sounds of the season.
  3. Digital Detox:
    • Allocate specific times for checking emails and social media to avoid constant digital stimulation.
    • Consider a designated “screen-free” day each week to promote mental relaxation.
  4. Social Connection:
    • Plan fall themed social activities with friends and family. Apple picking, fall themed dinner party,
    • Attend local fall events, like farmers’ markets or festivals, to enjoy the season with others.

Spiritual Health:

  1. Gratitude Reflections:
    • Begin your day with gratitude. Take a few moments each morning to reflect on the things you’re thankful for.
  2. Set Intentions for the season:
  3. Nighttime Routine:
    • Wind down your day with calming nighttime rituals. Practice deep breathing exercises, indulge in a warm cup of herbal tea, or read before bedtime to promote peaceful sleep.
    • Get out a pair of flannel pjs to bring extra connection to the fall season.
  4. Fall journal prompts
    • Fall Bucket List: Create a fall bucket list with activities you’d like to do before the season ends.
    • Changing with the Season: How does fall symbolize change for you? Explore the concept of change and growth in your own life, drawing parallels with the transformations happening in nature.
    • Fall Senses: Describe the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures that remind you of fall. How do these sensory experiences contribute to your overall perception of the season?

As we move through this beautiful season of transformation, let’s embrace the transformative power of changing with the season. Let our routines embrace nature in all aspects of mind-body-spirit. When we treat our bodies with care and engage in activities that bring us joy, we’re on the path to holistic health and wellness.
