One of my favorite things in the new year is coming up with my word of the year! It is something that I take my time with, and don’t put pressure on myself to have it ready by January 1. The process I use for coming up with my word is:
Reflecting on last year-
- what were my challenges?
- what were my accomplishments?
- what were my biggest lessons?
- what am I grateful for?
Thinking about the future-
- what do I want this new year to bring?
- how do I want to feel?
- what do I want to create?
My word of the year for 2023 is….
Simplify
The definition of simplify is- make something simpler or easier to do or understand.
Why did I choose this word?
When I answered the question of- how do I want to feel in 2023? The things that came up for me was peace, contentment, & joy. When I think about simplifying, those are the feelings that match.
As I thought about what I want to create for 2023, what came up was: a simplified life and environment, calmness, more space for creativity, and being debt free.
2022 was a year of challenges, beautiful experiences and a lot of lessons. It felt like it went by in a blink of an eye but also like it took forever. But I know that when times are tough or easy, I feel the most at ease when I take steps to make things simpler.
How I will use my word:
I will let this be the framework on what I chose to do and any decision I make. In how I view my home, my belongings, and what I choose to purchase. Simplify will make me evaluate my relationships and what matters most to me. It will be the lens in figuring out what routines and systems work best for me.
Some of the specifics that have come up so far are:
- what are some simple solutions?
- how can I simplify my daily routine?
- owning less
- simplify meals
- looking into a capsule wardrobe
- cut back on spending & instead of figuring out how to make more money, learn how to need less money
- set up systems that create more time in my day
- stop overexplaining myself
Do you have a word of the year? I would love to hear what it is!
