Wellness Wednesday~ Reading & Books I read in Februray

Another Wellness Wednesday is here! Today it’s all about reading. Reading is one of my favorite things to do. The books I enjoy reading are eclectic (kind of like my music, I can go from Tupac to country in one song- for real) Besides it being a fun thing to do, reading is scientifically proven to be good for you and to improve your life!

  • According to studies done by The Fisher Center for Alzheimers Research~ Reading helps to keep Alzheimers at bay!!(https://www.alzinfo.org/articles/reading-alzheimers-bay)
  • Another study done by The University of Sussex showed that reading can reduce stress by up to 68%. It works better and faster than other relaxation methods, such as listening to music or drinking a hot cup of tea. This is because your mind is invited into a literary world that is free from the stressors that plague your daily life. (https://www.takingcharge.csh.umn.edu/reading-stress-relief)

So read for your health, read for wellness, read because it’s fun- whatever reason you choose pick up a book and read!! At the end of the month, I will review the books I read during that month (Remember I had some extra time this month to read because I was on a vacation for a few days, so I don’t usually read 4 books in a month).

My February books:

  • Still Me by Jojo Moyes the 3rd book in the series of Me Before You~ I really enjoyed it and loved hearing about what certain characters that I had grown to love were doing
  • All The Missing Girls by Megan Miranda It reminded me of Gone Girl in the way that it kept you wondering what was going on the whole time & the writing style was similar to me. I thought it was good and was really suspenseful!
  • Wild by Cheryl Strayed~This was my favorite book that I have read in a long time. It was so raw, authentic and unapologetic.  At this point in my life I am pretty much just done with BS, let’s just put it all on the table 🙂 That is what this book is like!!! Anyone that has been on a journey of grief can relate to her journey on the trail. One of my favorite lines from the book is “As difficult and maddening as the the trail could be, there wasn’t a day that passed that didn’t offer up some kind of magic…”  Wow! True story.
  • Deadline by Jennifer Blackstream~ this was a cute little mystery book that I read as part of a book club that I am in. It is not usually the genre that I would read (that’s what is fun about being in a book club!) but I enjoyed it!

I should probably of warned you that I am not a super critical critic of books. Reading is joyous & I try not to get to nit-picky & just enjoy!
