How to Make a Worry Box

Do you find yourself with thoughts and worries that seem impossible to get out of your mind? It can be very frustrating, to say the least. As this goes on it can cause trouble with sleeping, affect your relationships, cause physical pain (stomach aches, headaches, muscle tension) and your overall sense of wellbeing… I am going to share with you how to make a worry box. A worry box helps give you some control back when these thoughts are intruding on your peace.

How to Make a Worry Box:

  1. Pick a box to use-

    • This can be as simple as a shoe box, or you can find a pretty box at a craft store or a plain one and decorate it. Don’t spend too much time on this part. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
  2. Start the practice of letting it go-

    • Take 3 deep breaths. Feel your feet on the ground. Allow whatever you are feeling to just be.
  3. Write it down-

    • Write out exactly what you are worried about. If you need a template to follow, try this one:
      • “I am feeling or worrying about {fill in here} please take this from me and make it okay. It is too much for me to bear and I am releasing it to you.
  4. Hand it over-

    • As you place the paper with your worry into the box, close the lid, and imagine yourself handing it to God or the Universe (whatever feels most right to you). Then say out loud or in your head- “all will be well.”

Repeat as much as necessary. You may have to write your worry multiple times a day, or you may need to write the same thing every day. But doing this practice on a regular basis helps calm worrying thoughts.

Have you tried this practice or is it something you want to try? I would love to hear about how it worked for you! If you want to know more about how writing can help with our wellness, check out my post “25 morning journaling prompts”.
