5 Books I read in July

Welcome to my monthly reading post! Find the books that I have read the past month and what I enjoyed about them. My goal is to read at least 2 books a month. In July we went on a vacation, so I was able to read more than usual.  Do you have monthly reading goals? I would love to hear what you are currently reading! Check out the 5 books I read in July:

Then She was Gone by Lisa Jewell

This book is a thriller and had me not wanting to put it down from the beginning. I have read a couple of books by this author now- Lisa Jewell, and each one has been like that. It is about a 15 year old girl, Ellie, who goes missing. The complicated tale of what happened makes this a page turner! I really enjoyed this book and it was my July book club pick. If you would like to be part of my virtual and meet in person (we had our first one for this book) book club- here is the link!

The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave

This book I read at the beach, and a book is always better at the beach, right? This is another book about a disappearance, but a totally different type of book. Owen, who is a husband to Hannah and beloved father to Bailey, disappears in the midst of a fallout and possible criminal activity. Hannah is th step-mom that Bailey wants nothing to do with, but through this mystery with lots of twists and turns, they find that there are answers that they never expected that bring them together as a team

.

The Grace Year by Kim Ligget

The Grace Year is the year of a girl’s 16th birthday, and in this place, it is the year that girls are sent away to become purified and ready for marriage. Tiereny is not like most girls and her experience during the grace year, it unlike any other. She learns a lot about new things about herself, and a lot of things that were not as the seemed to be.

You Will Remember Me by Hannah Mary McKinnon

This book is about a man who ends up with amnesia and has a very complicated double life. How the lives merge and are intertwined leave you feeling torn and confused about where this book is going to go. I will tell you that I was not a fan of how it ended. It took a turn that was very unexpected and not the way I was prepared for it to end.

Set Boundaries. Find Peace a guide to reclaiming yourself by Nedra Glover Tawwab

This book is going to be on my list each month! One of my goals is to read a self help/improvement book each month- but I slow it down to really get the most out of it. My good friend and I get together each week to discuss and do the activity in each chapter. It really helps dive deep and process each point. This book has so much great information that it really deserves for the reader to take it slow.

Ways to read books:

The Bookshop

Bookshop is an online book store that financially supports local book stores! If you go to my Bookshop link you can search in the top search bar for a specific book

Audible Plus If you like to listen to audio books Audible offers great options- You can try it for free for 30 days to see how you like it!

Libby App The Libby app allows you to check out a book from the library electronically that you can add to your nook or kindle electronic reader or as an audio book. You link it to your library card, there is sometimes a wait, just like if you were checking it out at the library. It automatically checks it back in on it’s due date- so no late fees!!

How to find time to read:

What we make a priority, is what happens in our life. Finding time to read can be tricky, it is easy for it to get low priority and have a million other things come up. Here are my top 5 ways to find more time to read.

  1. Read before bed, even if it’s only for 10 or 15 minutes
  2. Taking a book with you, and when waiting for something,  pullout your book and read. ( ex. waiting for kids in the carpool line, waiting in line at the DMV, while in the waiting room at the doctor’ office)
  3. Join my book club group! Each month we read a book and discuss it at the end of the month.  Having that motivation that other people are depending on you to finish the book helpful 🙂
  4. If you are traveling, make sure you bring a book or 2 with you
  5. Instead of getting on social media, reach for a book. Tracking how much time is spent on social media or our phones, can be pretty eyeopening. It’s a great way to find time to do things that you want to do but don’t think you have the time!
