My 5 favorite books of 2020

For my weekly post of 5 Favorites, this week I am going to share my 5 favorite books of 2020. It’s a little hard to cut it down to only 5. As I was writing out my reading list from the year, I am over 24- so this took some thought. Reading is something that I really enjoy so I try to read at least 1 chapter a day (usually it turns into more, because for me reading 1 chapter is like eating 1 potato chip- and who can do that?). In a previous post I shared creative ways on how to find more time to read.

My 5 favorite books of 2020

  1. Untamed by Glennon Doyle
    • Untamed book
    • Everything that Glennon has to say hits a chord with me. She has helped me become more honest with myself, her book Love Warrior helped me get through a horrible time in my life, and listening to the podcasts, Ted talks and interviews she has done always just gives me so much peace and assurance, so when her new book came out- I knew I had to read it.  Glennon did not disappoint!
    • This book is really about a woman being brave enough to find her true self. Not apologizing for who she is or trying to hide it, but celebrating and loving who she is. This book is one that needs to be reread as there is something to be learned on each page, and I don’t think it is possible to take it all in the first time through.
    • Some of my favorite quotes from the book by Glennon are:
      • When a woman finally learns that pleasing the world is impossible, she becomes free to learn how to please herself.
      • The truest, most beautiful life never promises to be an easy one. We need to let go of the lie that it’s supposed to be.
      • What is better: uncomfortable truth or comfortable lies? Every truth is a kindness, even if it makes others uncomfortable. Every untruth is an unkindness, even if it makes others comfortable.
  2. The Cactus by Sarah Haywood
    • The Cactus book
    • This book was refreshing and fun. The main character Susan has a personality that is hard to describe but is so enjoyable to read. She likes things orderly and controlled but soon learns that life doesn’t always work that way. I really loved this book! It was absolutely lovely!
  3. Loving What is: Four Questions that can change your life by Byron Katie
    • Loving what is book
    • The Work is simply four questions that, when applied to a specific problem, enable you to see what is troubling you in an entirely different light. As Katie says, “It’s not the problem that causes our suffering; it’s our thinking about the problem.” This book gave me a completely different way to view how to handle my response to others. Since reading this book I have been able to work through situations and experiences that have bothered me and really get down to the root of it. I recommend reading this with a friend to really be able to process it!
  4. Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman
    • Something in the water book
    • This book was a thriller and a page turner! If you have read Gone Girl, it reminds me a little bit of that in the sense that you honestly don’t know what is going to happen next.
  5. The Road Back to you by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabil
    • The Road back to you
    • Learning about by Enneagram number has been life changing! It really helped me learn so much about myself and ways to improve some of the negative traits of my personality and highlight the positive. If you have others in your life that you don’t understand why they do what they do, this book may help you to see the way different personalities work certain ways, and how to work together with others.  I highly recommend this book!

Reading is one of my favorite pastimes, not only does it help keep our brains working, it is relaxing and a great way for another place or experience to be brought to life! I hope you enjoyed my top 5 lists of books from 2020- and I would love to hear yours!
